Eden Hazard was Chelsea’s designated penalty taker before his move to Real Madrid this summer and just like many Chelsea fans, we have wondered who will take penalties for Chelsea following Hazard’s departure.
Chelsea’s 5-3 win over RB Salzburg might have given us a clue over who is Chelsea’s new designated penalty taker.
The Blues were awarded a penalty after Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic was bundled in the box by RB Salzburg’s Rasmus Kristensen and Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley was quick to grab the ball to take the penalty. The fact he was the only player that made a move to take the penalty could be proof that Barkley is our new designated penalty taker.
Barkley made no mistake from the spot, clinically drilling low into the bottom left-hand corner from 12 yards to make it 2-0 for the Blues, giving the goalkeeper no chance whatsoever.
Barkley’s penalty against RB Salzburg was a long way from his last one, in England’s Nations League third-place game, when he dinked a lovely panenka past Switzerland keeper Yann Sommer.
Barkley’s last two penalties shows he is comfortable taking penalties and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has obviously seen that.
Are you happy with Barkley being our designated penalty taker or would you prefer another player?
