Liverpool beat Chelsea in a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes of football.

Olivier Giroud scored the first goal of the game before Sadio Mane equalised for Liverpool early in the second half. 90 minutes of football couldn’t separate both teams and extra time followed.

Mane scored his second goal of the game to give Liverpool the lead before Jorginho equalised for the Blues after Tammy Abraham was brought down in the box by Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian.

After the first nine penalties were scored, Abraham missed his penalty which left the 21 year old striker devastated afterwards.

Chelsea legend John Terry, who himself missed a penalty in the 2008 Champions League final against Manchester United has offered support to Abraham after his penalty miss against Liverpool.

Terry took to Instagram to offer support to Abraham.

Terry wrote: “It will come, mate – along with a bag full of goals. I have seen from the age of 8 the hunger and hard work you put in. Love you, mate.”

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard also offered his support to Abraham by insisting he also missed penalties during his playing days.

“It is part and parcel of being at the top level. We have to be very supportive,” Lampard said of Abraham.

“I’ve told him not to worry.

“I’ve missed penalties before, anyone can miss, but what I want to see is the confidence of a young player to step up.”
