Chelsea youngster Mason Mount has started both Premier League games for the Blues and he scored against Leicester City on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, his first goal for the club in his home debut.
According to Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, Mason is in the Chelsea team on merit and not because Chelsea boss Frank Lampard likes him.
Merson told Sky Sports: “Mason Mount is in the team because he can play and carry his own, not because he is a nice lad and Frank likes him. He has done great and is only going to get better.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes Mount’s goal against Leicester City showcased everything that makes him such a special talent.
Lampard said: “The epitome of his talent was shown in his goal – great energy off the ball to close people down and then the quality to finish it. He could have scored two more goals in that opening period actually but we know he’s going to get better and better.
“That was the first of some big moments for Mason and I’m delighted for him on that level but I know he’ll have wanted that to be part of a win.”
