Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta joined the Blues at a very successful time, shortly after Roberto Di Matteo’s side had won the Champions League.

Azpilicueta made the switch from Marseille in 2012 and met a huge number of the veterans from the past era.

Azpilicueta has now hailed Chelsea legend John Terry and also legend turned manager Frank Lampard for the leadership qualities they exhibited during their playing days.

Azpilicueta told the official Chelsea website: “John Terry was part of my career here at Chelsea. He was the captain and I had the chance to see him every day on and off the pitch.

“The way he trained and the way he was living the team. He was a big influence and it is something that you take with you and you put in your bag. It is a big help.”

Azpilicueta also went on to hail Lampard for the passion he has, admitting that it’s same passion he had as a player.

“It is something I could see when we were sharing the dressing room, now I can see it as a manager,” he added.

“His passion, his desire to win. He is a winner.

“I reflect that in myself, the way I come here to Cobham. I know the club quite well, a lot of people who are around and I really feel involved in the day-to-day club life. I have passion when I go to the training ground. I always like to win every single possession game or whatever in training. I want to get that into the games where I am very proud to lead the team.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
