Former Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez has backed Frank Lampard to do well as Chelsea manager.
Benitez worked with the ex-midfielder in 2012-13, and was one of the many influences Lampard had while as a player, and the Spaniard led Chelsea to the Europa League title while as interim boss.
Benitez told a Q&A session for The Athletic that Lampard has learned his trade under so many experienced managers, and it will count in his favour.
“I think he has the potential and also he has been lucky enough to have foreign managers and English managers, so he has both points of view. That can help him a lot in his future,” Benitez said.
The former Chelsea boss is currently working with Dalian Yifang who are a seventh-placed side in Chinese Super League.
After two wins, two draws and two defeats, Lampard doesn’t see why Chelsea won’t make top four.
Lampard said in his press conference: “Of course not. I think from the way that we have played and there are lots of moments where we have showed confidence. We’ll have to push, because of all these teams.”
Lampard believes that his side can actually make top four despite a slow start to the season.
He said: “There’s a long way to go. Of course there’s a gap between us and Liverpool and City, which many people predicted.
“It’s come earlier than we expected, but look at the other teams around us. Arsenal, Man Utd – we understand we’re in and amongst it.
“Having seen the young players, I’m as confident as I was before. We want to be competitive and get into the top four.”
