Chelsea rose up to sixth in the league table after beating Brighton 2-0 in a Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
It was a very good performance from Frank Lampard’s side, and the Blues could easily have won that game way more than the scoreline, but for so many missed chances.
Not many believe that Frank Lampard’s side will make top four this season, and the Blues have been ruled out of a Champions League finish by most pundits.
However, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has backed Chelsea to make top four and believes that Frank Lampard’s side is better than what most people think.
Merson told Sky Sports: “There were phases in the game where they played very well.
“In between those goals there were a lot of nerves from Chelsea and you could feel the nervousness in the stands from the fans.
“The fans got nervous, the players got nervous but when they got that second goal they started passing it around again.
“Every week they get another Premier League game under their belt and when you win football matches that breeds confidence.
“It was stability at the start of the season and now you’re thinking ‘this could be top four’.
“They’ve got some very, very good players, Chelsea are a lot stronger than people think.”
Before the game against the Seagulls, Lampard was certain that Chelsea would seal a top four finish.
Lampard said in his press conference: “Of course not. I think from the way that we have played and there are lots of moments where we have showed confidence. We’ll have to push, because of all these teams.”
