Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was given an injury scare after Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri was forced off after just eight minutes of Italy’s match with Finland.
Emerson has been a key player for Lampard this season and has featured in all of Chelsea’s games.
Emerson, 24, was chasing Norwich striker Teemu Pukki in the early stages of the Euro 2202 qualifier when he pulled his hamstring.
Chelsea fans reacted negatively to this news as they were disappointed in losing another key player to injury, and not many want the return of Marcos Alonso to the starting lineup.
One Chelsea fan wrote on twitter: “Reece James Injured, same with Loftus Cheek and now Emerson, CHO and Rudiger haven’t also gained match fitnees yet. Our defence is totally shit with Zouma making silly mistakes and Azpi suffering from fatigue. Now Alonso gonna start every game too?”
“JUST CAME BACK TO SEE THAT EMERSON GOT INJURED AND ITS A HAMSTRING INJURY?? We are the unluckiest team in the entire world and nobody comes close, feel like jumping off a cliff just when I thought we were done with Alonso FFS,” yet another angry supporter tweeted.
After the game, Emerson tweeted that it was a minor injury, and Italy boss Roberto Mancini also confirmed that Emerson was only taken off as a precautionary measure, and admitted that it was a minor issue.
Chelsea fans are now excited to know that Emerson could still feature this weekend as Chelsea make the trip to the Molineux Stadium to face Wolves.
