Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi was on show as he put up a good performance and also got a goal as Chelsea’s development squad defeated Southampton 2-0.
The 18-year-old netted the first goal of the game as he steps up his recovery from injury. The highly rated teenager has started two games for the Chelsea U23 and is almost ready to return after suffering an ACL injury earlier this year.
Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour played a defence-splitting ball through the middle of the Saints defence, where he found Hudson-Odoi, and the pacey winger wasted no time as he took one touch away from a defender and then calmly poked the ball beyond the goalkeeper.
Hudson-Odoi scored his goal in the 57th minute before being substituted by under-23 boss Andy Myers on 75 minutes, meaning he can now feature for the first team having suffered no setback in both games.
Chelsea fans were pleased with his performance and were quick to praise him after the game.
“He’s back baby!” said a Chelsea supporter.
“What a playaaaa,” another supporter wrote.
Scottish midfielder Billy Gilmour was also praised for his assist.
“Scottish Iniesta has them on strings,” said a Chelsea fan.
Hudson-Odoi signed a new five-year deal worth £180,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge this week to end speculation over his future, and the 18-year-old could feature for the Blues in the League Cup game against Grimsby Town on Wednesday, in his first game for the first team since getting injured back in April.
