Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has sustained an unspecified injury while away from his loan club Burnley.
According to Daily Mail, Drinkwater suffered the injury away from the training ground.
Drinkwater has not played a Premier League game for 18 months and this latest setback could put him out for up to a fortnight. He last featured in a top-flight match in March 2018, when he started in a defeat at Manchester City.
The 29 year old was due to play for Burnley’s Under 23s against QPR on Monday but took no part.
Drinkwater made his Burnley debut in their EFL Cup defeat to Sunderland and the midfielder was at fault for Sunderland’s equaliser.
He has struggled to get gametime since his loan move to Burnley with Sean Dyche preferring Ashley Westwood and Jack Cork.
Drinkwater’s loan deal with Burnley will expire on January 6.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard recently admitted he let Drinkwater leave Chelsea on loan so he can get regular football after he was frozen out at Stamford Bridge under Maurizio Sarri.
Lampard said: “Danny has been here for two years and hadn’t played many games.
“He was eager for his own benefit, which I felt was good for us.”
