Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri has started all four Premier League games for Chelsea this season with Chelsea boss Frank Lampard preferring the Italian international to Marcos Alonso.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nico Schira, the Blues want to tie Emerson down until 2024 following his early season form.
The report claims Chelsea have opened contract negotiations with Emerson, whose current contract expires in 2022, and the Blues hope to extend his contract until 2024.
Chelsea are reportedly prepared to increase his salary from €3.9m to €5m plus performance-related bonuses.
Emerson impressed for Italy as they beat Armenia 3-1 on Thursday night and he admitted afterwards that his strong form in recent months for Chelsea and the Italian national team is the best period of his career.
“I think it’s the best period of my career,” Emerson said.
“I’m very happy at Chelsea, just as I was last season, but obviously a player is always happier when he plays regularly,”
Emerson joined Chelsea from Roma in January 2018 for €20m and has gone on to win an FA Cup and a Europa League.
