Chelsea’s Champions League campaign didn’t start on a good note as the Blues were beaten at home by Spanish side Valencia.
After 22 shots from Chelsea and 6 on target, with 60 percent possession, Chelsea still lost to Valencia at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
Chelsea then conceded a goal from set-piece in the 74th minute as Rodrigo went behind the Chelsea defence to beat Kepa Arrizabalaga with a fine finish.
Chelsea have an uphill task to qualify from the group, and former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson believes Frank Lampard’s side will fare better in the Champions League than the Premier League.
“Luckily, it’s only the first game,” Johnson told Starsport.
“Nobody wants to lose their first game – they’ve got lots of time to turn it around.”
“I think they’ll do well in the Champions League this year,” Johnson continued.
“Funnily enough, because the games are sporadic, I actually think they’ll do better in the Champions League than they will in the Premier League.
“They’re close to being a top side – and on their day I think they can beat anyone.
“The thing about the Champions League is you don’t have to be the best team to win it, you’ve just got to beat what’s in front of you.”
