Chelsea’s defence has shipped in nine goals already this season, as Frank Lampard’s side has the second worst defence in the Premier League so far.

The Blues have already conceded 9 goals in the Premier League in just four games, and Lampard’s side is yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has been out of the last two games due to injury, and Lampard has revealed that he can’t wait for his return to help shield the team’s defence.

Lampard said: “[N’Golo] Kante will help because he is world class. We all know that. It is healthy for him to have a two-week, not rest, but recuperation from his injury.

“He is a big plus for us. Some of the injuries that are coming back so the two-week break will help us to that degree.”

For the game against Sheffield United, Lampard tried a defensive pairing of Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori as he seeks to find his best defensive partnership.

Lampard said: “Tomori played very well for me last year and is training at a really high level and I have competition at centre-back and he deserved to play. I thought he played well. It was just a choice.

“I am trying to work all over the team to get the right combination and Rudiger now is fit after the international break so he gives me another choice.”

Lampard is also hoping to have injured duo N’Golo Kante and Pedro back in time for the game against Wolves after the international break.

He said: “I’m hoping N’Golo will be back for Wolves. The medical team have said to me that with no setbacks he should be, and that will be a big boost. And Pedro should be training by the middle of this week, so he should be fine for Wolves too.”

Rudiger is also expected to make a return to first team after the international break, as well as Callum Hudson-Odoi.
