Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount couldn’t complete his Champions League debut as an early injury cut short his game.

The 20-year-old was forced off within 15 minutes of Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Valencia after Francis Coquelin’s nasty challenge.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard revealed after the game that Mason Mount has suffered an ankle injury – but admitted it’s too early to put a time frame on his return.

Lampard assured that in a day or two, the medical team will have come up with a reliable assessment on the young midfielder.

“He’s got an ankle injury which hopefully isn’t that bad,” said the Chelsea boss.

“It needs to be assessed over the next day or so, but we’ll see about that one.”

From the look of things, Mount is a doubt for this weekend’s league clash against Liverpool.

Chelsea fans didn’t forgive Coquelin for his horror tackle as the Blues fans rained their disgust at the former Arsenal midfielder on Twitter.
