Chelsea lost 2-1 to Liverpool on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, our second consecutive defeat at the Bridge after the Champions League loss to Valencia on Tuesday.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes the Blues were the better team despite losing to Liverpool. According to Lampard, fans at Stamford Bridge applauded the team after the game because of the character and pure spirit shown against Liverpool.

A VAR decision cancelled Cesar Azpilicueta’s equaliser and Lampard hopes to be on the right side of a VAR call in the future.

Lampard said: “Performance wise we were the better team.

“Sometimes it’s character, pure spirit, that’s why the fans clapped the team.

“It is what it is I like to think we’ll get (a VAR call) in our favour.

“We do have to get on with it, it’s a sad thing for the moment and the celebrations but if you want the right decision you have to go with it.

“Little moments like that change the face of the game.”
