Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was named in England’s 25-man squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo.
The former Arsenal star will share a dressing room with Chelsea duo Mason Mount and Ross Barkley who also got a call up to the Three Lions team.
Chamberlain was asked to identify the players he admires in his favoured No. 8 position, and he didn’t fail to point out Barkley and Mount who are doing well for the Blues this season.
Asked about the players in his favoured No. 8 position whom he admires, Oxlade-Chamberlain also picked out City’s De Bruyne and Liverpool team-mate Jordan Henderson.
He told The Times: “There are a lot. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a good goal against Man City in the Champions League and I’ve watched that clip a lot!
“Hendo [Jordan Henderson] has stepped forward into a more advanced role [at Liverpool] and he’s doing it really well. It has brought a sense of life out of him, a sort of energetic pulse.
“[Andrés] Iniesta, historically, would be in the eight [role] picking up the ball, running, picking passes and scoring.
“Steven Gerrard would have been my ideal midfield general, growing up. It’s a bit more specific now but Kevin De Bruyne does it really, really well.
“I really like what Mason Mount has been doing. Ross Barkley, as well, can do it really well.”
