Chelsea have been written off by many in the title race and also the top four under new boss Frank Lampard.
Not many believe Lampard has the experience to lead Chelsea, and a lot of pundits are expecting Lampard’s side to miss a top four spot.
Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has revealed he likes what Lampard is doing at Chelsea and has called for patience with the new boss.
Lampard has a difficult task in his hand as the Blues were hit a transfer ban and also lost star man Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.
According to Merson, Lampard should be given manager of the season if he leads Chelsea to a top four finish.
Merson said: “I like Frank, and I think you get experience as you go. Would somebody else have played Mason Mount? He’s a special player. And now Tammy Abraham has four goals.
“We only do this by learning, you don’t get five games down the road and say: ‘You’re out of the team,’ if they’re not performing. You go back to square one like that. Patience, patience. These are young kids.
“Man City and Liverpool are so far ahead of everybody now, this is a different situation. If Chelsea finished in the top four this season, Frank would get manager of the year, in my opinion.”
