Chelsea are currently suffering some defensive crisis under Frank Lampard this season as the Blues currently have the third worst defence in the Premier League.
Frank Lampard’s defence have already shipped in 13 goals in just six Premier League games, and this accounts for more than two goals conceded per game. In fact, the Blues are yet to keep a clean sheet in all competitions this season.
Lampard started the season with a summer transfer ban, and thus the Blues were unable to secure any targets. Lampard was forced to retain the services of the current players at the club and even had to complete the squad with the club’s youngsters.
Football pundit Garth Crooks has now urged Lampard to go back and sign former Chelsea centre-back Nathan Ake after his impressive performance in Bournemouth’s 3-1 win over Southampton.
The 24-year-old Chelsea academy product originally joined the Cherries on loan but made the move permanent two years ago after impressing manager Eddie Howe, and Crooks has told Chelsea to consider signing him.
“The shot of Nathan Ake suspended in mid-air having attacked a set piece and buried a bullet header past Angus Gunn in Southampton’s goal was a picture to behold,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“It was not only Bournemouth’s first goal in a historic win against their south coast rivals but a clear indication that the Cherries meant business.
“I don’t know what Ake would cost for Chelsea to buy him back but if I was them I would seriously consider it.”
