It wasn’t an easy game for Manchester United in their Carabao Cup third round clash with Rochdale. After a 1-1 draw, both sides had to settle it out in penalties, with Manchester United finally scaling through.

For Chelsea, it was an easy ride as the Blues defeated Grimsby Town 7-1 at Stamford Bridge to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round.

The last time Chelsea met Manchester United, the Blues were unlucky to lose 4-0, and now Lampard will have the opportunity to get a revenge over his old foes.

Reacting to the draw, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted he was relieved Chelsea were handed a home tie with Manchester United after his side’s 7-1 victory over Grimsby.

“A big draw, pleased we’re at home. We’ll see,” the Chelsea manager said.

“We have to respect them, it’s going to be a tough game, you have to give Rochdale credit for taking them all the way.”

The last time the two sides met in the League Cup was in October 2012, as the Blues won the game in a 5-4 thriller.

The tie will be played at the Bridge on 29 or 30 October, with full details to be confirmed shortly.
