Reece James made his Chelsea debut in the 7-1 victory over Grimsby on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.
James was among the four debutants who featured against Grimsby, and the 19-year-old scored a goal on his Chelsea debut and also provided two assists for his teammates.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes the 19 year old fullback will be a big player for Chelsea, and the youngster admits it’s a dream come true for him, having started out with the academy at age 7 and has now featured for the first team.
“Obviously it’s a dream come true,” James said of scoring on his debut.
“I’ve played for this club since I was seven years old and it’s always what I wanted.
“Just to play my first game here at the Bridge, in front of all the fans, that was probably the best occasion.
“[Lampard] told me the day before
[that I would be starting]
but I think it doesn’t settle in until you’re actually out there on the pitch. The atmosphere was buzzing, the stadium, everyone was jumping.”
Stephen Warnock, who made more than 200 Premier League appearances, believes James can play anywhere for Chelsea.
Speaking on Carabao Cup on Quest, the former Liverpool man said: “Everyone is talking about him and he can play anywhere.
“This is the start of a promising career at Chelsea.
“And it’s one I’m very excited to watch.”
