Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has shown that he isn’t scared to play youth, and the Blues boss started out the season with young striker Tammy Abraham as his first choice striker, ahead of the more experienced Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi.
After initially struggling to perform in his first three games, Abraham scored seven goals in three consecutive games, including a hat-trick against Wolves.
Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has heaped praise on Abraham for taking his chances and also believes that the young forward has taken a lot of pressure off Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.
“With his history and what’s happened, how he’s got to Chelsea, how he nearly moved to Wolves but that didn’t happen… he’s taken his chance and he’s done fabulously for Frank,” Campbell said.
“It’s how he’s started, how he’s taken that mantle, taken the pressure and taken the pressure off Frank as well.
“You want these young players to take their chance and also given the opportunity, but then going for it. Some players get their chance and don’t take it, but he has.
“For me, banging on the drum about English players coming in…Tammy is the leading man [over the past month].”
Abraham is behind only to Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero in the scorers’ chart this season, with Aguero having scored just a goal more than the Chelsea forward.
