Chelsea boss Frank Lampard insisted after the 1-0 loss to Valencia on Tuesday night that Ross Barkley is Chelsea’s designated penalty taker.
There was an argument between Barkley, Willian and Jorginho on who should take penalty before Barkley insisted on taking the penalty, only for the England international to miss the penalty.
Lampard said after the game: “I don’t know what the conversation was with the other players – but Jorginho and Willian were the takers on the pitch, when Ross comes on he becomes the penalty taker. And he missed it.”
Many have criticised Lampard’s decision to give penalty duties to Barkley and they could have a good reason for criticising Lampard’s choice of Barkley.
Barkley has only scored three competitive penalties in regulation time for club and country in seven years.
Should Barkley be taking penalties for Chelsea after scoring just three competitive penalties in regulation time for club and country in seven years?
