Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold gave Liverpool the lead with a free-kick after just 14 minutes before Roberto Firmino doubled Liverpool’s lead 15 minutes.
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta thought he had equalised for Chelsea but the goal was disallowed because VAR found Mason Mount to be offside in the buildup.
Alexander-Arnold has admitted the last 25 minutes of the game was difficult for Liverpool.
The fullback also believes VAR caused a mental setback for Chelsea following the cancellation of Azpilicueta’s goal.
Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports: “It is a mental set back for the other team.
“You think you have scored, celebrate, get back in position and all of a sudden the goal has been cancelled.
“You can’t expect to come here and have it your own way.
“They are a proud side and were going to come out fighting.
“The last 25-30 minutes was really tough.”
