Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante and defender Kurt Zouma were absent as Chelsea beat Brighton 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Kante scored in the 2-1 loss to Liverpool last weekend while Zouma played 90 minutes in the 7-1 victory over Grimsby on Wednesday.
While explaining the reason behind his selection against Brighton, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard explained why Zouma and Kante failed to make the squad against Brighton.
“Kante felt a bit of awareness in his hamstring this week,” Lampard said.
“It’s something he’s been carrying this week even though he has been training with us.
“I had a conversation with him and we felt it was too risky to play him.
“Kurt Zouma felt ill this morning, so he misses out as well.”
