Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma is set to feature in the Carabao Cup third round clash with Grimsby Town tonight at Stamford Bridge.
Zouma has come a long way at Chelsea, and the 24-year-old has looked back at his debut game for the Blues where he got a goal in a League Cup clash.
Just five years ago, Zouma made his Chelsea debut and it couldn’t have gotten any better as he scored a goal in the 2-1 win over Bolton.
Zouma has looked back at that game in an interview with the official Chelsea website and he recalls just how much it meant to him.
“It’s five years?! Yes, it is!” Zouma said.
“I have very good memories from it. Your first game is always a strange feeling. I was 19, very young. I came to England, I couldn’t speak English very well, and when you’re young you just want to play.
“I just wanted to be on the pitch. I gave my all and I was lucky to score. It was a good way to introduce myself to the Chelsea fans.”
Interestingly, Zouma will go on to win the competition as a 20-year-old that same season, as he played in the League Cup final against Tottenham back in 2015. Jose Mourinho surprisingly thrust the young defender in a defensive midfield position in the League Cup final against Tottenham. Chelsea won the game 2-0 with goals scored by John Terry and Diego Costa.
