Ajax striker Quincy Promes appeared to have fired the Dutch giants in front from Hakim Ziyech’s cross-shot in the 37th minute but the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside.
Speaking after the game, Promes revealed he thought he had timed his run perfectly.
Promes said: “I thought I had made my run at the right time but the VAR is there to make sure in this kind of situation, so we just have to accept the decision.”
Promes also admitted Ajax didn’t create enough chances against Chelsea.
He added: “We were sloppy on the ball and had difficulty in retaining possession for long.
“We didn’t really create too many chances. And, of course, it was extra painful to concede so late in the game.”
