Chelsea youngster Reece James only recently returned from injury, and the 19-year-old featured for the first time for the Blues in the Carabao Cup third round clash against Grimsby Town.
James excelled in that game and got a goal and two assists as Chelsea romped to a 7-1 victory.
For many years, Cesar Azpilicueta has held the right-back spot at Chelsea and now the Blues skipper will have competition for the first time with Reece James who’s highly rated at the club.
However, Azpilicueta doesn’t see it as competition and believes that he will try to help the youngster reach his desired heights.
Azpilicueta said: “Reece is a player I have followed and he had an amazing spell at Wigan [on loan],’ the Spaniard began.
“He showed his quality, he is a very strong boy with a good attitude. I will try to help him with whatever he needs.
“I am here to help the team and even if he is a right-back and I can play right-back, we are players who can play in different positions. I am here to help as I am with all the young lads and hopefully he can be an important player for this big team.”
