Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was surprised at Jose Mourinho’s criticism of his team selection following the 4-0 loss to Manchester United at the start of the season.

In an interview with talkSPORT this week, Lampard admitted Mourinho had a go at Chelsea after the loss to United but revealed it’s all good now between himself and Mourinho.

Lampard told talkSPORT: “With Jose we would have texts from time to time.

“We had some at the start of the season around the Manchester United game where he had a little go!

“It’s all good. I’ve sat in the punditry chair for a year so I understand the need to say things so I’m certainly not going to bang on too much. In terms of him, yeah we have a relationship.”

Following the 4-0 loss to Manchester United, Mourinho criticised Lampard for fielding an inexperienced team.

“It’s the first match at home, the first match of the season, people are excited, the stadium is on fire waiting for something positive,” Mourinho said.

“A little bit of experience [from Chelsea] would fit well with the team. You look to the performance of Mason Mount, the performance of Tammy Abraham, you look to the performance even of [Andreas] Christensen and for matches of this dimension you need a little bit more.”
