Chelsea right-back Davide Zappacosta, currently on loan at Roma, has suffered a serious knee injury.
According to Roma, Zappacosta damaged his knee ligaments during training on Friday.
Zappacosta moved to Roma on loan this summer after Chelsea boss Frank Lampard decided to place his faith in youngster Reece James instead.
Since joining Roma on loan, Zappacosta has managed just 12 minutes of football and was about to return from a calf problem.
According to Sky Sports, the 27 year old will be sidelined for 4-5 months.
Roma agreed to take Zappacosta on loan until January with a possible extension until the end of the season but his injury could see him return to Chelsea in January.
The Italy international recently signed a new Chelsea contract until 2022.
