During the Carabao Cup game against Manchester United on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea fans paid tribute to former Chelsea player and manager Gianluca Vialli, who is fighting cancer.

Fans unveiled two banners reading: “Forza Vialli/We Are With You” before kick-off as fans at Stamford Bridge let the former Chelsea player and manager know he was in the thoughts of Chelsea fans.

55 year old Vialli revealed last November that he had been battling cancer for a year, and recently announced that he was still undergoing treatment in a battle to “live a normal life”.

Vialli arrived at Stamford Bridge in 1996 on a free transfer under Ruud Gullit.

He assumed the role of player-manager after Gullit was sacked in 1998.

He went on to win the League Cup and the European Cup Winner’s Cup in his first season in charge, as well as finishing fourth in the Premier League.
