It has been a tough couple of weeks for Tottenham Hotspur, as Spurs are looking far from their best in recent weeks. The embarrassing 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League just shows how bad Mauricio Pochettino’s side has dropped, and it didn’t get any better during the weekend as Spurs were beaten by Brighton 3-0.
While Tottenham started the season in better form than Chelsea, Spurs are now 9th in the league and three points behind Chelsea having lost two of their last three league games.
Chelsea fans were in buoyant mood at the St Mary’s, and after the scores seemed to much for any hopes of a comeback, the Blues fans were heard chanting to Southampton fans: “are you Tottenham in disguise?”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has urged his players not to get carried away with the margin of victory over Southampton.
Speaking to Match of the Day, Lampard said: “I didn’t think we started that well, even though doing so had been something we’d talked about before.
“The goal came at the right time and after that I felt pretty comfortable.
“Let’s not get carried away, it’s a long season and we feel we might have picked up more points than we’ve actually got.
“We’ve not been at our absolute best and we can be a lot better. We’re scoring goals, great, but can we tighten up? Yes.”
