The Blues beat Southampton 4-1 at St Mary’s on Sunday but the Blues showed vulnerabilities at the back despite the margin of the victory.

The Blues had a 2-0 lead before Danny Ings scored to make it 2-1. The Blues should have defended better.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admits his defence needs to sharpen up.

Lamps said: “We let someone stroll into our box and score.

“We switched off at a throw-in — we’re nowhere near the finished article.”

Lampard also believes Chelsea are primed for a top-four spot.

Lampard said: “Liverpool are out on their own but we are in a nice position.

“It should give us determination to go away and come back in the same vein.

“The reason we are playing well is our hard work and how together we are.

“If we can keep going then we will be challenging right up there I hope.”
