Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi scored twice in his first competitive start for England U21 on Tuesday night.

The Young Lions beat Austria U21 5-1 and Hudson-Odoi was the star of the show as he scored two first-half goals in the 5-1 European Championship qualifying win over Austria U21.

Prior to an injury last season, Hudson-Odoi became a senior international but he returned to Aidy Boothroyd’s U21 team following his recovery from injury.

Boothroyd has hailed Hudson-Odoi for his attitude after he dropped down to the U21 team despite already being a senior England international.

It’s certain Hudson-Odoi will be with the senior squad for next month’s Euro 2020 qualifiers but Boothroyd is hoping to have Hudson-Odoi in the U21 team again.

“I hope not,” Boothroyd replied when asked if he thought that would be the last time he would be involved with the Young Lions.

“He’s been brilliant for us, if a player was a senior and then came back down to us they could be moody but he has been first class, on and off the pitch.

“If anything in both games he was almost trying too hard, things don’t come off but what he did tonight was exceptional.”
