Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has been warned he’s no longer an automatic starter under Frank Lampard.
Rudiger has played just 45 minutes for Chelsea this season due to injuries.
“Under a new manager, he will have to earn his place in the team just like everybody else,” former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair told The Athletic.
“Frank has alluded that players will only get picked on merit, the way they train, the way they perform when selected.
“I don’t think it is automatic one, especially if Chelsea keep playing well and winning games. At the moment, Rudiger won’t find it easy to get back in.
“On the flip side, Antonio can play in a number of positions: left-back, right-back, in a back three and so on.
“Rudiger is obviously a top international player and has been a big part of Chelsea the last two seasons.
“He is very adaptable and he will get an opportunity to play somewhere this season. When he does get back in the team, it will be hard to get him out if he comes back with any kind of form.”
