Mason Mount continued his fine form this season as he put up a good performance in the 4-1 win over Southampton at the St Mary’s ground on Sunday afternoon.

It was a good performance for Mount who scored the second goal of the game and has now scored four league goals already this season.

Mount is known to be a high scoring midfielder in the mould of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, having scored 11 goals in the Championship last season.

Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp raved about Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount after his performance and revealed the need for a midfielder like Mount, while also predicting that the 20-year-old could hit double digits like Lampard.

“To be a top team you have to have a goalscoring midfielder, Chelsea had the best ever in Frank Lampard, now they’ve got Mount and he looks like he’s going to get into at least double figures,” he told Sky Sports.

“He’s so composed, he’s ice-cool in front of goal, he’s just a good player, it is as simple as that.”

Fellow Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness was full of praise for Mount, and he believes the young midfielder will go on to be great as he hailed his qualities.

Souness said: “He’s got great feet, he wins it and isn’t happy to just be involved with the first part, he’s still there and what jumps out at me is how quick his feet are. He gets in the right place, in and around bodies, he’s a genuinely all-round good footballer with a good brain.

“Confidence is growing and that will be more and more as they win games. They’re coming in as relative unknowns, they’ve been out of the first team, now they’re winning back-to-back games, the growth and the belief, they’ll only get better and better.”
