Speaking to L’Équipe du Soir, French international left-back Lucas Hernandez hailed Giroud’s impact in the game after coming on as a sub in their 1-1 draw away at Turkey.
He said: “When Giroud came onto the pitch, he did us good. Defensively, Turkey did well. We knew that they were dangerous from set pieces, especially at the far post.
“And their equaliser came just like that. There is disappointment because this was the key match.”
Giroud was pleased with his goal as he said: “Antoine (Griezmann) hits the corner sweetly, I had to be in the right place and right time. It was a fiery header.”
He however revealed that he was disappointed that his side didn’t get the win that could have ensured qualification for Euro 2020.
