Eden Hazard spent seven years at Chelsea after moving to the club in 2012 from Lille.

The Belgium captain joined Chelsea as an upcoming star, but it was at Stamford Bridge where he grew into becoming one of the best in the world.

After seven successful years at Chelsea, Hazard pursued a long talked about move to Real Madrid during the summer in an £88m deal that could rise up to £150m.

The 28-year-old has now explained that he made the decision to switch to Real Madrid over a year ago, but the club didn’t let him.

Speaking to Real Madrid TV, Hazard said: “I’d already made my mind up after the World Cup and I said to myself: ‘I have to join Real Madrid now’.

“That wasn’t possible and I spent another year at Chelsea and that made my departure easier. The club understood it and allowed me to leave.

“My dream was always to play for Real Madrid, the greatest team in the world, and so far I’m happy.”

Despite making his dream move to the Los Blancos, it hasn’t been a dream start to the season for Hazard where he has scored just once in nine games and has drawn criticisms rather than praise from both fans and the media.
