It has been a very tough week for Christian Pulisic after some difficult moments during the international break.
The 21-year-old stormed to the bench and burst into tears after he was substituted during the United States’ defeat to Canada.
Pulisic has struggled to break into the starting XI at Chelsea recently and there were footage of the American bursting into tears after being substituted by Greg Berhalter.
Pulisic has found it hard to break into Chelsea’s starting line-up this season and has found playing opportunities hard to get. However, the young American got a substitute appearance against Newcastle and impressed.
Pulisic came on for Mason Mount in the 64th minute and his introduction brought spark to the Chelsea attack.
After the game, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted that he was impressed with the young winger.
“I am pleased for Christian as he is a hot topic because of the price tag and his status with his national team,” said the boss, “but everyone has got carried away with the short term, and the long term is he has come here and has just turned 21 and it is good to see him play like he did today and there is more to come.
“He should feel good about today because he was a big part of us winning.”
