Fernando Torres made a switch from Liverpool to Chelsea in the January transfer window for a then British transfer record of £50m.

Torres failed to live up to his hefty price tag, as he scored just 20 league goals in 110 appearances for the Blues.

Despite his struggles for Chelsea, the Spain legend scored some important goals and won some very important trophies while as a Chelsea player.

Torres won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup with Chelsea, and while he scored an impressive six goals in nine Europa League appearances, the Spaniard is mostly remembered for the goal he scored in the semi-final clash against Barcelona as the Blues went to defeat Bayern Munich in the final and lift the trophy.

Torres has thanked Chelsea fans for the love they showed him and revealed that he will forever remain grateful to the club.

Torres told the official Chelsea website: “The reaction of the fans really means more than the feeling for myself.

“Sometimes I felt like the fans were looking forward to my goals even more than me.

“I felt like every time I scored an important goal they were happy because I was the goalscorer, more than because we scored a goal.

“I will be in debt to them forever.”

Chelsea fans have responded to Torres statement by showing how emotionally attached they were to the Spaniard despite his lack of goals.

“The biggest difference between Torres and Morata for me was that Torres never stopped trying,” a Chelsea fan said.

“Say what you want, I absolutely love Fernando Torres,” said another Chelsea supporter.

“One of my favourite players of all time. Although he wasn’t as dominant as we expected him to be, I’m still so appreciative that he joined Chelsea and gave it his all.”

“Me, a fully grown man, genuinely teared up a bit when Torres scored his first PL goal for us,” added another Blues fan.

“A Torres goal just made my weekend better. It’s just hard to explain. He was that underdog you couldn’t help but root for,” said another.
