It was a good weekend for the Chelsea FC community, as all Chelsea teams got a positive result over the weekend with impressive displays to match.
While Chelsea senior men’s team defeated Newcastle 1-0, the U23 squad taught Arsenal a lesson with a 3-1 win, while the U18s team beat Norwich 3-2 and the Chelsea Ladies won 3-0 away at Crystal Palace.
For the Chelsea men’s team, the Blues had to labour through to a victory, and it took a 73rd minute strike from Marcos Alonso to give Chelsea the win.
Speaking on what he told the players at halftime that helped Chelsea secure the win over Newcastle, Lampard said: “You can see why they’ve got a couple of good results this year.
“Organised, men behind the ball, a threat on the counter-attack.
“I think in the first half, albeit we created a couple of chances, we were a little bit safe, a little bit slow. We moved the ball side to side but not with enough urgency and probably not with enough risk to sometimes take people out of the game.
“That was the message at half-time and I thought second half, for the majority, that we did that. We created a lot. The combinations were good. We played between the lines more.
“People were getting one v one – Callum [Hudson-Odoi], Willian, particularly Christian [Pulisic] when he came on – and there should have been more goals. It would have made the last 10 minutes more comfortable.”
