Tammy Abraham has been banging in the goals as he has scored nine already this season, while Christian Pulisic has been the latest Chelsea hero with a hat-trick against Burnley on Saturday.
But the combination of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic is one that’s making this Chelsea team tick.
Frank Lampard’s side has won seven straight games in a row, and these two have been at the centre of it to the point where we’ve been made to forget about a certain N’Golo Kante – the midfield general whom Chelsea can’t do without since he signed from Leicester City.
Slowly and steady, Jorginho and Kovacic have formed a good partnership that brings hard work, flair and fluidity to the Chelsea midfield.
Chelsea legend Pat Nevin wrote about the success of the duo in his recent column for the official Chelsea website.
He wrote: “Of course Christian Pulisic got the headlines and more about him in a moment, but like Frank I thought Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic were off the scale. Both had minimum 9/10 games for me, utterly dominating possession and controlling the entire game. I spent a lot of time last season trying to explain to the British public how good Jorginho is.
“Now it looks as though I am finally in the mainstream of thinking; everyone finally loves what he is doing for Chelsea.”
