Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been shortlisted for the inaugural Yashin Trophy, a Ballon d’Or for goalkeepers.
The goalkeepers’ Ballon d’Or would be handed out for the first time this year and would be named after the famous Soviet international Lev Yashin, who is the only goalkeeper to have won the main Ballon d’Or, back in 1963.
Four Premier League-based goalkeepers are in the running for the ‘keeper award, with Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, Manchester City’s Ederson and Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris in the running alongside Arrizabalaga.
The six other candidates include Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer, Inter Milan’s Samir Handanovic, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, Ajax’s Andre Onana, Juventus’ Wojciech Szczesny and Barcelona’s Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
