Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is unavailable for selection for Saturday’s game against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge after picking up a groin injury while on international duty with France.
Kante has struggled with injuries this season which has seen him miss four Premier League games this season.
Kante was forced to drop out of the Les Blues line up in the warm up against Iceland last Friday after picking up a groin injury. The 28 year old returned to light training two days later before being an unused substitute the following day in the 1-1 draw with Turkey.
Lampard criticised France boss Didier Deschamps for his handling of Kante’s injury.
“No, N’Golo is not fit. A small groin issue with France, he isn’t fit for Saturday,” Lampard said.
“We all have our selection problems, but the Kante one was not a laughing matter.
“We communicated before the first international break.
“It was clear that he wasn’t fit to play the second game and he sat on the bench.
“I think it could have been handled better.
“I understand that when a player is on international duty that they are their players, but it was clear that he wasn’t fit.”
