Chelsea young fullback Reece James started for the Blues as we beat Lille 2-1. It was his first Champions League game appearance in his career.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard took off Reece James and brought on Callum Hudson-Odoi after 67 minutes, who also made his Champions League debut.

According to Lampard, he took James off for tactical reasons and also because of his fitness.

Lampard said: “Reece James for instance was thrown into his first Champions League game and looked so comfortable.

“The only reason to change was tactical and his fitness because he hasn’t had many games.

“The young players are responding, and they have to keep doing that because this Champions League level is something else.

“They did well tonight and they can do even better.”
