Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has made just one appearance for the Blues this season, the 5-2 victory over Wolves, and the German international lasted just 45 minutes as he had to be replaced at halftime after suffering another injury.
Ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed the latest on the centre-back.
According to Lampard, positive steps have been made in Rudiger’s recovery but he is unavailable for the game against Newcastle.
“Rudiger is training outside with the physios which is a progression for him,” Lampard said.
“He had a tough injury with some stop-start aspects to it which has been unfortunate for everybody but he’s outside now, which is positive.
“There’s a bit of work to be done for him to get match fitness but it’s really positive for us that he’s back outside.”
