Michy Batshuayi and Christian Pulisic were the game changers for Chelsea as the Blues got a precious away win against Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
With the game still at 0-0, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard decided it was time to go for a win as he brought on Christian Pulisic in place of Willian and also Michy Batshuayi in place of Tammy Abraham.
Pulisic and Batshuayi changed the game for Chelsea and their introduction sparked the game around for Chelsea. Pulisic laid on a fine assist for Batshuayi to smash home and the Belgian fired home for the Blues.
In his press conference after the game, Lampard hailed the performance of the duo and admits it has been tough leaving them out.
The Chelsea boss said: “Sometimes the toughest part of management is leaving out players that really want to play week-in, week-out. You rely on them being positive and coming on to make an impact. Both Michy and Christian [Pulisic] did that so I’m delighted for them both and delighted for the whole squad because it’s great for team spirit when subs come on and make a difference like that.
“The beauty of my role is I have Michy and Olivier Giroud, whose training and positivity when they’re not playing regularly is exactly what you want. Michy’s hold-up play instantly was good in the game, he made a difference and got his goal so I’m delighted for him.”
