Mason Mount deserves a lot of credit for what he has achieved this season, as he has been in excellent form for Frank Lampard’s Chelsea.
To come from a loan spell with Championship side Derby County and force your way into the Chelsea team at just the age of 20 isn’t a feat you’d get to see at Chelsea very often.
Mount didn’t win a place in the team by sentiments, but he proved himself and worked his way through starting right from pre-season as he showed his manager that he can carry his Championship form to the Premier League, and there has been no looking back for the youngster.
Mount has pointed to Chelsea midfielder Jorginho as his biggest influence. Jorginho has been a key player for the Blues in the middle of the park, and Mount has revealed that he looks up to the more experienced midfielder.
“When you’re coming into a team and playing with someone like Jorginho, how much of a character he is and how big he is within the team, he’s had a massive effect on me,” Mount said.
“He’s a massive player for us and you learn so much off a player with that experience of playing at a very, very high level,” the young England star continued.
It’s no wonder Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has given Jorginho the role of Chelsea vice-captain.
“Jorginho is vice-captain as it stands,” said Lampard.
“Apzi is captain, as you all know, and that was clear at the start of the season. His professionalism and his career here to date speaks for itself.”
Explaining why he chose Jorginho as captain, Lampard added: “Jorginho is a character, a driver and that is very evident to see on the pitch.
“He wants to win, I know that should be the basics for everyone but to show it in everything you do is important and I think he does that.
“From pre-season, he’s been one of the leaders in the dressing room and on the pitch.
“I’m pleased with him and the young players need to look up to that kind of attitude that he has daily.”
