Mason Mount has been having an awesome season, and the accolades coming his way are merited.
The 20-year-old has been a key player for Frank Lampard this season and has been ranked fourth by TalkSport in a listing of the best young players in Europe’s top leagues.
To organise their rankings, TalkSport used stats from WhoScored.com to come up with a list of the best 15 players under the age of 21 who are at top flight clubs in England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy.
Mount finished fourth in the rankings, only behind Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund, second-placed Victor Osimhen of Lille and third-placed Martin Odegaard of Real Sociedad.
He was ranked as the best youngster in the Premier League, ahead of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold who came in fifth place.
“Not only has he registered four goals already this campaign but his creative talents have gone unrewarded with no assists despite UnderStat.com crediting him with an expected assists number of 1.23,” stated the TalkSport report.
“His ability to play on both the left flank and in an attacking midfield role has given Frank Lampard plenty to think about.”
Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp has raved about Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount after his performance against Southampton and revealed every top team needs a midfielder like Mount.
“To be a top team you have to have a goalscoring midfielder, Chelsea had the best ever in Frank Lampard, now they’ve got Mount and he looks like he’s going to get into at least double figures,” he told Sky Sports.
“He’s so composed, he’s ice-cool in front of goal, he’s just a good player, it is as simple as that.”
