Chelsea put in one of the best displays of the weekend after beating Southampton 4-1 away at the St Mary’s Stadium courtesy of goals from Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi.
BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks has analysed the performance of players in each game of matchweek 8, and he listed only one Chelsea player in his team of the week.
Willian was one of the stars on show at the St Mary’s, but it was only Tammy Abraham who made the BBC team of the week.
Crooks said of Abraham: “It was the great Jimmy Greaves who said that football is a funny old game. Well, who would have thought that Chelsea fans would be chanting the name of Tammy Abraham in the same manner they used to celebrate Didier Drogba.
“That is because the young striker is leading the line in a similar manner to the Ivory Coast legend. If Abraham continues to develop at this rate, manager Frank Lampard will have another problem on his hands – keeping him at Stamford Bridge.”
Two former Chelsea defenders Gary Cahill and David Luiz also made the team.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has hailed Willian as Chelsea’s best player in the last 4-5 games.
Lampard said: “Willian was the standout today, without a doubt. If you wanted to show our wingers what we want from them, we would show them a video of his work ethic today, and his quality and burst of pace on the ball.
“In the last four or five games he has been our best player.
“It’s a great thing to say when you have got players who are examples on the pitch around these young boys.”
