Chelsea and Manchester United will play a Carabao Cup tie tonight at Stamford Bridge, and both sides will be looking to get the win and move to the next round of the competition.
Manchester United defeated Chelsea 4-0 just two months ago, but the fortunes of the two sides have changed since then, and Michael Owen believes that Frank Lampard’s side will be coming for revenge.
Owen has backed Chelsea to win this game and believes the Blues are in better form to win this game.
“Manchester United fans will have been delighted to see their team back up their performance against Liverpool with successive away wins in recent days, but I feel their mini-revival will come a cropper against Chelsea in what promises to be another terrific cup-tie,” he wrote in his column for BetVictor.
“Chelsea have won their last seven games in all competitions and I expect to see Frank Lampard’s side gain revenge for their comprehensive opening day loss to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the Premier League.”
Ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup game with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, Lampard has revealed that his side isn’t thinking of that defeat suffered at Old Trafford back in August.
“We’ve said nothing about that,” he admitted in his press conference. “It feels like a million miles away.
“I’m not disregarding it because when you play against a top team like Manchester United, with top players, they can hurt you in moments and they did it to us four times in a game that we performed pretty well in. I don’t think the context of that is going to be hugely relevant tomorrow night.”
