It’s going to be a big race in the top four this season as four clubs will fight for two spots in the fight for a Champions League spot.
Obviously, Liverpool and Manchester City are way above the rest of the pack and it’s looking like they will fight for the title as they did until the last day of last season.
For Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal, all four clubs will fight for a top four place.
“There is a big gulf. Leicester are doing well and they might get in the top six or the top four but there is still a gulf,” Merson said on Sky Sports.
“Chelsea seem to be in better form than the three other clubs fighting for the top four as Tottenham were beaten 3-0 by Brighton, while Manchester United have also been dropping points for fun.
“We didn’t expect Leicester to go to Anfield and win but from what I’ve seen, if the other teams fighting for the top four don’t show consistency this season which they are not at the moment, Leicester could sneak in.”
However, Paul Merson has warned that Leicester City are proving to be a big threat and could sneak in on a top four finish.
Ahead of Sunday’s game with Southampton at the St Mary’s, the Blues are 9th in the table and if Chelsea get the three points, the Blues will be level on points with Leicester City who are currently third.
